More than a year and a half after the Attorney General’s Office appointed Deputy Prosecutor Pedro Inocencio Amador Espinosa to lead the investigation of three deputies who were linked to the Falcón drug trafficking and money laundering network case, the prosecutorial body has not yet requested the special judge appointed by the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) to hear the case.
The special judge of the SCJ, Napoleón Estévez Lavandier, who was designated to hear requests for judicial authorizations of the necessary preventive measures that may derive from the investigation, has not received any request from the Public Prosecutor’s Office in this regard.
The Supreme Court judge has more than a year waiting for the Public Prosecutor’s Office to indict three deputies for the Falcón case.
In December 2021, Judge Estevez Lavandier was designated by the Supreme Court to conduct the process against legislators Faustina Guerrero Cabrera, of El Seibo; Nelson Rafael Marmolejos Gil, of Santiago, and Hector Dario Feliz Feliz, of Oviedo, Pedernales.
On 12 April, the same judge was appointed to hear the case of Deputy Sergio Moya (Gory), involved in the Calamar Operation, for which three former ministers of the past government headed by former President Danilo Medina are being prosecuted.
According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, informants reported that Gory Moya was one of the coordinators of the scheme of extortion of lottery banks, created by the former Minister of Hacienda, Donald Guerrero.
According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the network operated in the north of the Dominican Republic, especially in Santiago, but with branches in the eastern region.
On 27 September 2022, the Attorney General’s Office executed a search order at the residence of the deputy of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) for El Seibo, Faustina Guerrero Cabrera (Grey Maldonado), wife of Juan Maldonado, accused as the ringleader of the Falcon case.
