
Tennis gave the Dominican Republic two gold medals and one silver medal on Tuesday, 4 July 2023 as the 24th Central American and Caribbean Games, San Salvador 2023, enters into its last week.
Tennis player Nick Hardt delivered the country’s 11th gold medal when competing in singles, he defeated his doubles partner Roberto Cid, who won the silver. Hardt defeated Cid in a three-set one-hour and 27 minutes game (6-2, 3-6, 10-7).
It was the third consecutive final in which two Dominicans have played each other. Previously, Victor Estrella defeated Jose “Bebo” Hernandez in the Central American Games held in Veracruz, Mexico 2014. In Barranquilla (Colombia) 2018, Estrella did the same again vs Roberto Cid.
Earlier in the day Hardt, got his pass to the final by beating the Mexican Alan Rubio 2-0 (6-1, 6-2) in 1:37 hours. Cid had made the finals by beating Blaise Bicknell, from Jamaica, by 6-2, 6-1 in 1 hour and 18 minutes.
In mixed doubles, Peter Bertran and Kelly Williford produced the country’s 12th gold medal. Bertran and Williford won the gold defeating the Costa Rican couple — Cristian Rodriguez and Maria Perez. That game ended 7-6, 7-5 and 5-1.
