The president of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD), Dr. Senén Caba calls for everyone to apply preventive measures learned during the Covid-19 epidemic.
He says the clinical impact of the Covid-19 virus that is circulating is low, but, unquestionably, the country is going through an influenza outbreak and an upturn in the incidence of the Covid-19 virus. He understands the impact this time around is low because of the large number of fully vaccinated persons among the population.
He recalled that people with cancer, lupus, diabetes and with chronic respiratory diseases, among other conditions, continue to be vulnerable to catching the viruses. He pointed out that the authorities should maintain active epidemiological surveillance and continue orienting the population on vaccination, especially the most vulnerable.
He said that the important thing is that people continue the measures that are already known to be effective such as hand washing, avoiding closed places where people conglomerate and getting fully vaccinated (three doses).
For weeks now, doctors and health centers have observed a significant increase of patients with respiratory processes, mainly caused by influenza A and B, respiratory syncytial and Covid-19 viruses.
In the latest report on the behavior of Covid-19, the Ministry of Public Health reported six hospitalized patients and 777 new infections in the last week, some 200 cases above those reported the previous week.
The epidemiological bulletin corresponding to week 25 details that the country had reported 842 active cases of the virus at that time.
The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) says Covid-19 remains under control, despite the recent increase in cases. Deputy Minister for Collective Health, Eladio Pérez says the Epidemiological Surveillance System monitors the virus closely, and the necessary control and prevention measures are being applied. He again points out the disease is endemic so cases will always be recorded.
He says there is no reason to be alarmed by the slight increase in Covid-19 cases recorded, as they remain within the expected parameters for this time of year.
“We do not want anyone to get sick, people who wish to take the test can go to the established centers such as: the tent at the Ministry of Health headquarters and in the different Health Areas and Provincial Directorates,” he reports.
He urged those who have not yet completed their immunization schedule to do so, since there are enough vaccines available at the fixed vaccination posts for them to receive them and avoid any serious episode.
