Juan Mustafá, general manager of the governmental Development and Exports Bank (Bandex), confirmed it has lent out RD$2,218,129,150 to the health sector from 2022 to date, as reported in Listin Diario.
But the president of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD), Senén Caba, and the president of the National Association of Clinics and Private Hospitals (Andeclip), Rafael Mena say that very few clinics were able to benefit.
In defending the lending, Mustafá mentioned to Listin Diario that the clinics Centro Medico Corominas in Santiago, and Calma Alma in Santo Domingo benefited. Also the Centro Medico Regional Aguasvivas in Bani. Nevertheless, he did not list where the RD$2 billion was allocated.
Meanwhile, Mena said that only two of the 116 clinics affiliated to Andeclip could access the low-cost financing – 6.5% interest in RD$ and 5.5% in USA for 20-year terms. He said several applied, but the red tape required made it very difficult.
