Referencia Laboratorio Clínico announced it now has available Flow Cytometry testing for early detection of cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
Dr. Mauro Barrantes, technical director of Referencia Laboratorio Clínico, the largest private lab company in the Dominican Republic, explained to the medical community the advantages of Flow Cytometry during a presentation on Tuesday, 4 July 2023 in Santo Domingo.
Because of its use with T-cells, flow cytometry is used as a diagnostic tool for many types of leukemia and lymphoma. Some types of cancer that may be diagnosed with immunophenotyping include: Acute myeloid leukemia. Mantle cell lymphoma.
The laboratory method measures the number of cells, the percentage of live cells, and certain characteristics of cells, such as size and shape, in a sample of blood, bone marrow, or other tissue. The presence of tumor markers, such as antigens, on the surface of the cells are also measured.
