Abinader is in Brussels for the European-Celac Summit

President Luis Abinader traveled on Saturday, 15 July 2023 to attend the III European-Celac Heads of State and Government Summit in Brussels, Belgium. The event gathers leaders of Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. The head of government in Haiti, Ariel Henry is also attending. The summit will take place on 17 and 18 July.

Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez, Deputy Minister of Multilateral Foreign Policy Ruben Silie, Minister of Economy Pavel Isa and the Dominican ambassador in Brussels, Ivan Ogando, are part of the Dominican delegation to the event regarded as one of the main forums for dialogue and cooperation between Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean. The President traveled with his press director Daniel García Archibald and assistants Lourdes Herrera and Eilyn Beltran, and General Jimmy Arias, director of the Specialized Presidential Security Corps (Cusep).

While in Brussels, Abinader will meet with the Dominican diaspora and hold bilateral meetings with fellow heads of state and representatives of international organizations.

Reports are that President Abinader has already met with the president of the Interamerican Development Bank, Ilan Goldfajn. Also on his agenda is a bilateral meeting with Sergio Díaz Granados, president of the Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina (CAF). Abinader is scheduled for a bilateral meeting with President Mohamed Irfaan Ali of Guyana.

On Monday, 17 July, President Abinader is scheduled to meet the Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness. He also has scheduled a bilateral meeting with Ursula Von der Leyen, president of the European Commission.

President Luis Abinader is scheduled to return on Wednesday, 19 July 2023.
