Prosecutor to investigate threats made by Micky Lopez to journalists

Adjunct prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso has begun an investigation into evidence that Micky Lopez would have threatened several Dominican communicators that have been covering cases of drug trafficking. Reynoso is the director of prosecution of the Attorney General Office.

The adjunct prosecutor general summoned communicators Pedro Jiménez, Sergio Carlo and Alfredo de la Cruz who have denounced they have received threats from Miguel Arturo “Micky” Lopez. Lopez has been investigated for his ties to money laundering from drug trafficking. CDN reports that Lopez was signaled out as the head of an international drug trafficking network led by former Dominican Navy sergeant Pablo Antonio Martinez Javier. And that Martinez Javier happens to be the son of Rosa Amalia Pilarte, the congresswoman and wife of Micky Lopez, who won a candidacy for the province of La Vega.

As reported, the deputy attorney general summoned Micky López himself, to her office on Monday, 17 July 2023, to investigate the denunciations of threats that he would have made to journalists. Pedro Jiménez, Sergio Carlos and Alfredo de la Cruz shared images and audios of the threats on their social media networks and news platforms.

López is under investigation by the judiciary accused of being part of a network to launder assets from drug trafficking operations. Also accused are his sons Miguel Arturo Lopez Pilarte and Jose Miguel Lopez Pilarte and his wife Rosa Amalia Pilarte, a deputy for the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
