Rains forecast for Santo Domingo

The Weather Office (Onamet) has issued green alerts for Greater Santo Domingo, Monte Plata and San Cristóbal, the southcentral provinces of the Dominican Republic, including the capital city.

A tropical wave making its way east from Haiti is meeting a passing trough and this is expected to bring heavy rains that could cause flooding, especially in areas near rivers and in urban areas with poor drainage.

The weather bureau forecasts the rains will be felt in La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, Santiago, San Juan, Azua, Independencia, Baoruco, La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, La Romana, El Seibo, among others. During the evening, downpours will continue over the east, northeast, southeast and southwest, as the tropical wave passes over the country.
