With just over a month until the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Dominican Alexander Ogando was in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, to compete on Tuesday, 18 July in the 200 m. He clocked in at 19.99 to win the gold at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial event.
Some of the world’s best athletes participated in the track event, the season’s penultimate World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting. Like Ogando, the athletes sought strong results before participating in what is regarded as the global athletics showpiece in Budapest, the World Athletics Championships, to take place 19-27 August 2023.
23-year old Alexander Ogando of the Dominican Republic (ranked 4th in the world) raced in hot and sunny conditions in Szekesfehervar and defeated Erriyon Knighton of the United States (ranked 2nd in the world in the event). Knighton was second with 20.05. Third place went to Andrew Hudson of Jamaica with 20.36.
Ogando was part of the 4 x 400 m mixed relay that won gold in the Oregon 2022 World Athletics Championships.
