
In the first six months of this year, Banco Agrícola, the government farming bank, has lent RD$2.3 billion in zero interest rate loans. The zero-interest loans began in the wake of Covid-19 as part of policy implemented by the Abinader administration since 2020 to back farming.
Diario Libre reports that 10 of more than 40 agricultural crops concentrated 54.5% of the total zero interest loans granted in the first half of 2023. These crops are rice, cocoa, coconuts, bananas, limes, oranges, bananas, passion fruit, coffee and cassava.
