Senate recognizes late singer-composer Víctor Víctor

The Senate on Wednesday, 19 July 2023 met to recognize the life work and legacy of José Víctor Rojas (Víctor Víctor), for his contributions to Dominican music and to social causes, the arts and culture. The president of the Senate, Eduardo Estrella presided over the awarding of a plaque to commemorate the life of the outstanding singer-composer. Estrella pointed out the authenticity in Victor Victor, and the messages he shared in each of his compositions, as well as the late artist’s endeavors for the common good.

Senator Faride Raful (PRM-National District) highlighted Victor Victor’s constant joy, solidarity and empathy.

Victor Victor died on 16 July 2020 of complications with Covid-19.

During the recognition ceremony, Xiomara Fortuna, Adalgisa Pantaleón, Omar Quezada, Manerra, Gnómico, Janio Lora, Christian Alexis, sang songs to commemorate the legacy of the outstanding Dominican artist.

Víctor Víctor was the composer of innumerable songs of social, romantic and popular content. Celia Cruz, Emmanuel, Milly Quezada, Danny Rivera, among others, included his songs in their repertoires.

The late artist made a historic production in 2006, with the performers Joan Manuel Serrat, Joaquín Sabina, Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, among others, focusing on bachata. Victor Victor is recognized for his work that led to the positioning of bachata all around the world.
