
Opción Democratica is an emerging political party that in the 2020 election united with Alianza Pais, and now announces its own pre-candidates. The first are 38-year old Virginia Antares Rodríguez Grullón, 35-year old Samuel Bonilla Bogaert, 34-year old Jose Horacio Rodriguez Grullón, and 24-year old Stayci Toribio Henriquez.
Opción Democrática is out to attract the voters that catapulted Luis Abinader to the Presidency. They are appealing to the same citizens that voted against impunity and corruption in office, for rule of the law and for change in 2020.
Jose Horacio Rodriguez Grullon (Opcion Democratica- District #1, National District) seeks to repeat in Congress. He was the most voted in 2020 when at 31 years he ran as part of the Alianza Pais-Opcion Democratica party alliance. Now, with Opcion Democratica running on its own, he seeks to be reelected to the Chamber of Deputies. He is a graduate of the PUCMM law school with a masters from the Complutense University of Madrid in public law.
Rodriguez Grullon announced that his legislative assistant, 24-year old Stayci Toribio Henríquez will also be running for deputy for Santo Domingo East in the congressional elections. Toribio Henriquez is a graduate in Social Sciences as a High School Teacher from INTEC. She graduated in law summa cum laude with a concentration in administrative law, social justice and human rights from Unibe university in Santo Domingo.
35-year old Samuel Bonilla Bogaert, one of the founders of Opción Democrática, is a pre-candidate for No. 2 voter’s district in the National District. He is on a media tour promoting that candidates at all levels participate in open debates. He studied economics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM). Then he earned a master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs in NYC between 2010 and 2012. He was later admitted to Stanford University in California, where he earned a master’s degree in International Comparative Education. He is a doctoral candidate in Political Science at the University of Southern California.
38-year old Virginia Antares Rodriguez Grullón, Jose Horacio’s sister, is a pre-candidate for President for Opción Democrática. She is a graduate in communications from PUCMM, and has a master of arts from the University of Sussex (Chevening) in Development and Environment. She is a communicator, politician and activist. She has worked as a journalist for Listin Diario, and as a communication consultant for World Animal Protection. She has taught communications at PUCMM. She is active training the next generation of politicians.
