The 25th International Santo Domingo Book Fair (FILSD 2023) will take place this 2023 in September, announced the Ministry of Culture. The fair will take place on the Plaza de la Cultura grounds.
More than 350 cultural activities are on the program – conferences, panels, book presentations, among others. This year there will be a Publishers Pavilion, Reading Walk, Comic Book Pavilion, Israel Pavilion, Jeannette Miller Pavilion, Authors Pavilion and Literary Workshops. The novelty of the year will be the Imagination Pavilion.
The Imagination Pavilion is a new space that promises to captivate attendees with interactive exhibitions that include a 4D tour of the Colonial City and the presentation of teams from various Dominican universities awarded by NASA for their inventions.
In addition, visitors will be able to live immersive experiences in the metaverse, with a virtual library that will allow them to interact with augmented-reality books. A mind-controlled car track will be presented, a robotic arm mimics a real arm’s movements, and the Technological Institute of the Americas will exhibit various applications of artificial intelligence.
Google will have an outstanding participation in FILSD 2023, with a series of activities, including a conference entitled “Artificial Intelligence in Google Cloud” by Gabriel Alvarado, scheduled for 25 August 2023. Google will host a workshop on “How to put together a book with free tools,” on Tuesday, 29 July and another, “Collaborative Tools: Google Workspace,” on Thursday, 31 July.
The 25th edition of the book fair is dedicated to writer Jeannette Miller. Israel is the guest country. The event will take place from 24 August to 3 September 2023.
International speakers are coming for the event, including Adolfo Roitman (Argentina/Israel), Karla Suárez (Cuba), Carlos Bardem (España), Carmen Posadas (Uruguay/España), Gioconda Belli (Nicaragua), Gonçalo M. Tavares (Angola/Portugal), Paco Ignacio Taibo II (España/México), William Ospina (Colombia), Nora Rabinowicz (Argentina) and Raúl Zurita (Chile).
The Ministry of Culture says 27 international editorials are participating, 48 local bookstores, seven universities, 12 government institutions, and seven foundations.
