Rains to continue; less over the weekend

It rained and rained on Wednesday, 26 July 2023 in the DR, causing even the postponement of the inauguration of the Av. España boulevard renovations in eastern Santo Domingo and outdoor sports events.

The Weather Office (Onamet) reports that the tropical wave that brought the rains is moving west and the weather should clear up somewhat by Friday.

For Thursday, nevertheless, heavy rains could still occur mainly in the provinces of San Cristobal, Peravia, Barahona, Pedernales, Bahoruco, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Samana, Independencia, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Sanchez Ramirez, Duarte, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Santiago, San Juan, Azua and Greater Santo Domingo.

For Friday, the Weather Office says that a trough in the upper levels of the troposphere will join the winds from the East and Southeast and cause scattered showers primarily in Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Sanchez Ramirez, Monseñor Nouel, Duarte, San Juan de la Maguana and Elías Piña, among other nearby provinces.

On the Caribbean coast, operators of small and medium-sized vessels from Cabo Beata (Pedernales) to Punta Palenque (San Cristóbal) and from Saona Island to Cabo San Rafael (La Altagracia) are advised to remain in port due to wind and abnormal waves.
