On his Twitter account, President Luis Abinader applauded the announcement by Kenya of being willing to send 1,000 security agents to assist the Haitian government police to re-establish law and order in the country.
Abinader noted that in 2021 he addressed the United Nations General Assembly and asked the international community for help in assisting Haiti recover from the chaos and lawlessness.
Now President Abinader says: “Our perseverance is paying off” as Kenya volunteers to head a multinational intervention of Haiti by nations supported by the United States.
Kenya says that they support all persons of African descent, including those in the Caribbean. The Kenyan police will assist the Haitian police force as soon as the United Nations Security Council approves the operation and other Kenyan constitutional issues are resolved.
President Abinader tweeted:
“On 21 September 2021, before the United Nations General Assembly, I asked the international community for help to resolve the insecurity in Haiti. Our perseverance is paying off: Kenya will lead, with the support of the United States, a multinational force for Haiti! We will continue to advocate for more support.”
Diario Libre reminds its readers that China and Russia, with seats in the UN Security Council, still need to clear the sending of the troops.
