The DR U12 team almost didn’t make it to the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-12 Baseball World Cup for lack of funds to pay for the airfares to Taipei, Taiwan. That team carried out the historic feat of defeating Team USA, for the first time. The USA boys gave it all to catch up, but eventually the game ended 13-9 in favor of the DR. The closest the USA got to reversing the scores was when they brought the deficit down to four on two separate occasions.
Team DR had gotten off to a spectacular early start with six runs in the bottom of the first inning. The players took advantage of five walks and two errors.
The U-12 Baseball World Cup is the only global event across baseball—and all of sport—to feature national teams in this age group (11 to 12 years-old).
The U-12 Baseball World Cup is the under-12 baseball world championship sanctioned by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) and its predecessor the International Baseball Federation (IBAF), and is the most elite and highest level of competition in its age category.
As of 31 July 2023, Korea leads. The standings of the 7th U12 Baseball World Cup were:
Group A: Chinese Taipei (3-0), Venezuela (3-0), Germany (1-2), Japan (1-2), Mexico (1-2) and Australia (0-3).
Group B: Korea (3-0), Dominican Republic (2-1), United States (2-1), Czech Republic (1-2), Panama (1-2) and New Zealand (0-3).
The World Cup is taking place 28 July to 6 August 2023 at the Asia Pacific Field II and Asia Pacific Main Stadium in Taipei, Taiwan.
