
It’s official. President Luis Abinader has named Frank Hans Dannenberg Castellanos the country’s ambassador to Canada. Dannenberg Castellanos previously had been the country’s ambassador in Rkussia since October 2020. He had the difficult task of dealing with the pandemic and the Russian-Ukranian war. Before, he was a long time first Dominican ambassador to India.
The switch from Russia to Canada is in Decree 308-23, issued on 12 July 2023, Diario Libre reports.
Dannenberg carried out an outstanding work as ambassador in Russia. He maneuvered to many times increase Russian and Ukrainian tourism to the Dominican Republic. When the Russian-Ukrainian war ended that, Dannenberg had to deal with the difficulties of war geopolitics.
He now moves on to Canada that has a large Haitian expat community at a time when Haiti is immersed in its worst multidimensional crisis. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada has blamed persons of Haiti’s elite of exacerbating the situation in Haiti. The Dominican Republic is the main loser given the impact of the social crisis on Dominican exports and social spending.
Dannenberg Castellanos biography:
In 2020, Dannenberg Castellanos was appointed to be the Dominican ambassador to the Russian Federation, concurrent in Armenia, Mongolia, Moldova, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.
On his background he served as special envoy to the United Nations during the successful campaign for the DR to opt for a seat on the Security Council.
From 2006 to 2021 he was ambassador to India, concurrent in the Philippines, Malaysia, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam and appointed for Kazakstan, Indonesia, Australia and Maldives.
Previously, from 2004-2006 he served as deputy minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic.
He is married to and has two sons.
