Prosecutors charge PRM deputy with laundering drug trafficking assets

The Public Ministry is charging ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM-La Vega) deputy Rosa Amalia Pilarte (La Vega) of serving as middle person for the laundering of around RD$2.6 billion in drug trafficking money through local financial entities. The charge was deposited on Wednesday, 2 August 2023 to the Supreme Court of Justice.

The Public Ministry says it has evidence the illicitly-obtained money came from an alleged network headed by her husband, businessman Miguel Arturo López Florencio (Micky López).

The process against the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) legislator will be heard in the Supreme Court given that her status as a member of Congress awards privileged jurisdiction. The case will be heard by Judge Napoleón Estévez Lavandier, who will serve as judge of the Special Instruction.
