The announced Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) candidate for the Presidency, Santiago Mayor Abel Martínez told Diario Libre the party seeks to participate in the 2024 presidential elections in an alliance with the People’s Force (FP) and the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD).
The People’s Force (FP) is the spin off party that was created when former President Leonel Fernandez split from the PLD accusing the party echelons that were in control of state finances of rigging the computerized voter system to favor Gonzalo Castillo, the preferred candidate of then President Danilo Medina.
Abel Martinez has a strong reputation as a successful mayor in Santiago, the country’s second largest city, but is not well known in the rest of the country.
