Roberto Herrera, manager of InterEnergy Group, parent company of the Consorcio Energético Punta Cana – Macao (CEPM), Gedom and Evergo, was decorated as an Honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). Herrera is only the second Dominican to receive the prestigious award that recognizes his contributions to sustainability and the promotion of clean energy. The first was Fernando Gonzalez Nicolas.
The Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) award corresponds to one of the five royal divisions, awarded directly by the British monarch. The distinction, created and awarded by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom during her reign, recognizes the outstanding performance and achievements of personalities worldwide in different disciplines. The MBE is awarded for an outstanding achievement or service to the community.
“This title represents a privilege and a boost of energy to continue working hand in hand with our partner country, the United Kingdom, in the fight against climate change and the search for a cleaner and more sustainable future for future generations,” Herrera expressed upon receiving the award from Baroness Hooper and UK Ambassador Mockbul Ali OBE.
Herrera’s close ties with the UK began once he pursued graduate studies in Economic Business Sciences from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. He studied in Scotland on a Chevening scholarship.
The distinction was formally delivered in a ceremony at the residence of His British Majesty’s Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Mockbul Ali, and the Prime Minister’s Envoy for Trade, Baroness Gloria Hooper.
