
Political parties seem unwilling to follow the rules, but the Central Electoral Board (JCE) again goes public, saying that marches and propaganda in the pre-campaign period is banned. The 2024 election campaign is only in the pre-campaign period when the parties must choose the pre-candidates for the primaries or other electoral methods. The candidates need to be chosen by November 2023.
The JCE now threatens to retain taxpayer funds allocated to political parties or to apply fines. The JCE says Political Parties, Groups and Movements Law 33-18 establishes that until the electoral campaign period is open, the holding of mass events such as rallies, marches, caravans, and the dissemination of electoral propaganda such as the placement of billboards, posters, banners, as well as the promotion of the candidates through the media such as radio and television.
