In October, the XI FITA RD 2023 international theater festival will be held in Santiago and Santo Domingo. The festival will be dedicated to the well-known Dominican actress Karina Noble and the actor-director Mario Ernesto Sánchez.
The festival will feature 35 theatrical productions, with 18 coming from eight countries. Seventeen are Dominican theatrical groups.
The Gran Teatro del Cibao in Santiago is the main venue for the first time. Previously, the festival had been centered at Bellas Artes and National Theater venues in the National District.
The festival will be held from 20 October until 30 October 2023 with over 70 presentations in 13 different theater halls, seven in Santiago and six in Santo Domingo. Colombia is the guest nation. The Matacandelas Troupe will present one of its famous works alongside of groups from Valladolid, Spain. Theater groups are coming from the cities of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Medellin and Bogotá in Colombia. Also from Mexico City, Lima in Peru, San Juan in Puerto Rico, Havana in Cuba. Groups will participate from Chicago, Miami and New York City in the United States.
