Elizabeth Silverio allowed to await trial for posing as a neuroscientist outside jail

The National District First Instruction Court has allowed Elizabeth Silverio Silién to await her trial outside of jail. She had been in preventive custody at the Najayo Jail. The court ordered her to wear an electronic leg shackle but she can circulate freely in Greater Santo Domingo. She is impeded to leave the country and must be available to attend the court hearings.

Elizabeth Silverio Silién had posed as a specialist in autism and convinced parents she was a graduate of prestigious universities in numerous related careers when she was but a self-taught psychologist at her center. She prescribed pharmaceuticals and diagnosed children. Investigative journalist Nuria Piera unmasked her.

After the investigative report aired, the Ministry of Public Health closed Silverio’s center, Centro de Terapias Neurocognitivas y Psicopedagógicas Knowledge Land Kogland.

Silverio Silién faces charges from the Ministry of Public Health. Several parents of children enrolled in the center have sued her for allegedly violating articles 92, 93 and 156 of the General Health Law 42-01 and 405 of the Penal Code.
