President Luis Abinader attended the 16 August 2023 Restoration Day ceremonies in Santiago that were carried out in a restricted manner in respect to the 27 deaths and 59 injured victims of the major blast in San Cristóbal that also caused major property losses. The President oversaw the military parade lasting less than half an hour. The mega party that had been planned for Santiago in the area of the Monument to the Restoration was suspended.
President Luis Abinader suspended the speeches he would have made on the occasion of 16 August 2023.
In Santiago, President Luis Abinader was accompanied by Vice President Raquel Peña, Minister of Defense Carlos Diaz Morfa and Santiago Senator Eduardo Estrella.
