
The National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) reported on Sunday, 27 August 2023 that so far it has received, identified and delivered to their relatives 15 corpses of the 34 people who died during the explosion registered on 14 August in a commercial area of San Cristóbal, west of Santo Domingo.
Diario Libre newspaper reports that Francisco Gerdo, director of Inacif, says the Inacif is still working on identifying another 20 cases from body parts. He said the identification is attempted using DNA tests of 22 disappeared persons that were outsourced to the Laboratorio Referencia private lab.
Meanwhile, Hoy newspaper asks out loud if the time has come to request assistance from the US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) to resolve the San Cristobal explosion. Hoy remarks that more than 14 days have passed, and the authorities have yet to say what happened. 34 persons have been declared dead, there were more around 60 seriously injured.
