The score of 75-67 of the DR vs Angola game doesn’t reflect the hard-fought match it was. At the end, the DR clinched the victory in the 2023 FIBA World Basketball Cup.
The DR team had won the first quarter 20 to 11 but then lost the second (21-17) and third quarter (18-12). The highly-trained DR team kept at it and picked up steam to win the last quarter, 26 to 17.
Sports commentator Jorge Mota NBA highlights that it is the first time the DR leads the group when moving to the second round of a FIBA World Cup.
In the first round, the DR defeated Italy, Angola and The Philippines to win all its games in Group A of the 32-team first round of the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Italy plays The Philippines at 8am on Tuesday, 29 August 2023. Regardless of the outcome of that game, the DR moves to the second round.
