If you aren’t prepared for an intense hurricane, do not delay in readying your home and business. Those who live in the Caribbean any day during the hurricane season can find themselves in the path of an intense hurricane. The hurricanes even have found ways of creeping giving little warning, even but a day or two, as happened recently in the case of Tropical Storm Franklin.
Gloria Ceballos, the director of the National Weather Office (Onamet) reminds those living in the Dominican Republic that the peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season is already upon us. Historically, major hurricanes have hit the Dominican Republic in September. She mentions San Zenon on 3 September 1930, David on 31 August 1979, Georges on 22 September 1998 and, Tropical Storm Noel on 28 October 2007, and Fiona 20 September 2022.
Ceballos says the peak season starts the second half of August through the beginning of October.
The DR is recovering from flooding damages caused by Tropical Storm Franklin on 22 and 23 August 2023.
