The Dominican government closed the official gateway at the border with Haiti and Dajabon after the reported murder of a family by Haitian gang members. The closing of the border also coincides with a request on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Relations for collaboration from Haitian authorities to stop channeling the waters of the Masacre River. Farmers in Dajabon say the construction would affect the water supply to the Dominican Republic side of the border.
