Heavy rains fell on Tuesday, 5 September 2023 in the afternoon causing flooding in the main streets and avenues of Santiago, and major traffic jams.
The rains collapsed traffic on Salvador Estrella Sadhalá, 27 de Febrero, Antonio Guzmán, Circunvalación Sur, Monumental, Juan Pablo Duarte and others in Santiago, the Dominican Republic’s second-largest city.
Strong winds accompanied the heavy rains a consequence of the trough that is making its way over the Dominican Republic. Showers are expected in La Vega, Santiago, San Juan de la Maguana, Elías Piña, Dajabón and Santiago Rodríguez.
So far, the Civil Defense had not received any reports of displaced families due to the rains.
