Traffic resumed on the Barahona to Pedernales road on Tuesday, 25 September 2023. A landslide on Sunday had cut off the road near San Rafael on Sunday. As reported, workers of the road construction company Andalar Intermacional removed the fallen rocks to make transit possible again.
Experts explained that bringing the section to its normal condition will take another three months due to the amount of material that slid down the mountain onto the road.
Andalar is responsible for widening and improving the road in the Enriquillo-Pedernales area. The road leads to the Cabo Rojo area that is under intense tourism development.
As reported, the road was cleareed just in time since the only two fuel service stations in Pedernales had had already run out of petrol stocks. The road collapse affected more than 15 communities.
