
The Senate passed transportation and solid waste bills for US$244 million submitted by the Presidency. The bills had already passed in the Chamber of Deputies on 4 September 2023 and will now move to the Presidency for signing into law.
The Senate authorized the government to borrow EUR190,132,142 (around US$200 million) from the French Development Agency (AFD) to expand the Metro in Greater Santo Domingo.
The legislators also approved the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) loan for US$44.2 billion for the comprehensive and sustainable solid waste management program in Greater Santo Domingo.
The ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) is a majority in both houses of Congress.
