
Last week the National Council of Industrial Free Zones (CNZFE) board of directors approved the installation of 12 new companies that will create over 1,600 new jobs in the export free zones.
The directors also approved the creation of a new free zone industrial park in Santo Domingo that will provide another 1,200 jobs. Over RD$165 million will be spent on creating this new free zone.
According to reports by officials from the Ministry of Industry (MICM), these 12 new companies call for an investment of over RD$615 million in opening call centers, manufacturing and tobacco processing companies.
Currently, there are nearly 200,000 persons employed in the nation’s system of manufacturing and services export free zones. Over the past eight months, these companies have exported well over US$5.3 billion in goods and services.
