
The Central Electoral Board (JCE) released the preliminary results of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) primaries that took place on Sunday, 1 October 2023.
President Luis Abinader swept the contest to decide the PRM party candidacy in the 19 May 2024 presidential election. The JCE says Abinader received 879,458 votes, for 90.79% of the total votes. The runner-ups were lawyer Guido Gómez Mazara, who received 53,904 votes (5.56%); chemical engineer and economist Ramón Alburquerque, who received 21,527 votes (2.2%); and lawyer and psychologist Josefina Delia Ortiz, who received 13,750 votes (1.42%).
Among the contests to choose Greater Santo Domingo mayors, pastor Dío Astacio was elected the PRM candidate for Santo Domingo East, with 21,478 votes, for 35.36%. He was followed by Adan Peguero, who obtained 14,114 votes (23.24%). 13,832 people voted for Bertico Santana, or 22.77%. Incumbent major Manuel Jimenez came in last, with 11,312 citizens or 18.62% of the vote.
Pre-candidate Francisco Peña Tavarez won the Santo Domingo West candidacy for the ruling party, with 11,900 votes for 35.27%. The runner-ups were José Andujar with 9,515 votes for 28.20%; Elías Báez, with 7,365 votes for 21.83%, and José Moya Mejía got 4,957 for 14.69%.
The municipal elections will be on 16 February 2023.
