Final events of visit of Vice President Raquel Peña to India

On 4 October 2023, Vice President Peña Rodríguez met her counterpart Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar. As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India, both leaders held wide-ranging discussions and reviewed their bilateral relations covering political, defense, economic, cultural, education and developmental cooperation. They also discussed cooperation in multilateral fora and international issues of mutual interest.

On the same day, the Dominican Vice President delivered the 45th Sapru House Lecture on “The Dominican Republic and India: Natural Partners” at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA). She also visited IIT Delhi, where she witnessed the signing of a MoU between IIT-Delhi and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Dominican Republic.

In India, the Vice President also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Central Drug Control Organization of India and the Medicines, Food and Health Products Agency of the Dominican Republic.

She also signed an agreement between the Scientific and Industrial Research Council, National Institute of Oceanography of that country and the National Maritime Affairs Authority of the Dominican Republic.

On 5 October 2023, Vice President Peña Rodríguez did some tourism and visited Agra to see the iconic Taj Mahal. This was her first visit to India.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India reported that the visit by Vice President Peña Rodríguez “provides a strong impetus to the growing ties between India and the Dominican Republic and underscores the importance given by both sides in adding further momentum to the bilateral relations, as both sides commemorate the 25th year of establishment of diplomatic relations in 2024.”
