Two renovated hospitals and fishing wharf in Samana

President Luis Abinader was in Samaná on Sunday, 8 October 2023, to inaugurate two public hospitals, the fishing wharf and several road works. President Abinader called for the appointment of a volunteer group of Samana citizens to oversee the operation of the hospital and ensure the new investments in public health. The hospitals in this province are the Leopoldo Pou Municipal Hospital in Samana City and the Los Cacaos First Level Center, on the road to Las Galeras. The National Health Service (SNS) reports the government has invested RD$87,897,107.35 in the medical centers to benefit 168,265 residents in the area.

RD$77,846,184.04 was invested in the Samana public hospital, the Leopoldo Pou for its renovation and equipping. RD$10 million was invested in the Los Cacaos clinic.

The fishing and tourism wharf will benefit shrimp and fish in general fishermen in the area. The Dominican Port Authority invested RD$58 million in the improvements of the Sanchez-located Fishing, Tourist and Sports Docks.

Jean Luis Rodríguez, director of Apordom, said the new infrastructure delivered is expected to change the lives of more than 1,000 families and benefit approximately 5,000 people.
