
The Dominican Republic has a new ruling to deal with electronic waste. The Ministry of Environment and the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) worked with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the UN Environmental Program (UNEP) to develop the local rules.
Environment Minister Miguel Ceara Hatton says the challenge now is to apply the ruling — Reglamento para la Gestión Integral de los Residuos de Aparatos Eléctricos y Electrónicos – that establishes extended responsibilities of the product maker, importer and vendor in the country, as determined in Law 225-20.
