A small group of Dominicans that had arrived on a vacation to Israel just when the Hamas terrorists launched their attacks last week, were able to leave.
As so many flights were either canceled or delayed for many days, these Dominicans could not get out.
Finally, on Saturday, 14 October 2023, they managed to get on a flight to New York, but even that was delayed as there were explosions at or near the Ben Gurion International Airport.
The media reported arriving at New York’s JFK Airport early on Sunday, 15 October 2023 in the morning.
Originally, the group was on a tour of the historic places in Israel and Turkey, but their guide advised them to get out of Israel and go home. The group was able to complete some of the tours programmed in Israel. Israel has always been a popular destination for Dominicans interested in religious tourism.
The group had to appeal to US Congressman Adriano Espaillat to obtain the necessary visas so that the group could go to New York on one of the very few flights available. This was because some of the group did not have a visa to enter the United States, while others did have US residency or US visas. The travelers were assisted by the Dominican consulate and the US Embassy in Israel.
