President Luis Abinader appointed Viriato Antonio Segura Paniagua as the new Dominican consul in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He replaces Andrés Emmanuel Bautista, son of former senator and life president of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Andrés Bautista.
Decree 479-23 states that Emmanuel Bautista, who served as consul in the Haitian capital since the beginning of the government, will now serve as ambassador based at the Ministry of Foreign Relations in Santo Domingo.
The change of the head of the consulate in Port-au-Prince occurs amid the impasse between both countries due to the construction of a canal to divert the waters of the Masacre River in Haiti.
