DR is at 7.6 million tourists for the first nine months of the year

The Ministry of Tourism reported another record in accumulated arrivals with 7,625,985 arrivals so far this 2023. In September 2023, the number of non-resident tourists visiting the Dominican Republic was 5,445,990. September numbers were 115,861 when compared to the 430,129 in September 2022. September is usually a low month for tourist arrivals.

The accumulated number from January to September is now 7,625,986 arrivals, up 24% compared to the same first nine months in 2022. In 2022, from January to September, 6,136,567 foreigners had visited. The difference from one year to the next is 1,489,419 vacationers. The increase in sea visitors has made a difference.

In the years before the pandemic, 5,716,822 had arrived in 2018 and 5,759,741 in 2019.

Jacqueline Mora, Technical Vice Minister of Tourism, is optimistic the 10 million tourist market will be broken this year. “As of today, counting the last 12 months, we are at 9,964,009 visitors who have arrived in the Dominican Republic, very close to the goal,” said the official.

The number of visitors by air was 478,794 in 2023, higher than the 430,135 in September 2022, for a positive difference of 11%. Cruise passengers who arrived by sea were 67,196, higher than the 50,518 in 2022—the sum of these two results in the total number of tourists.
