The Dominican Association of Electricity Industry (ADIE) complains that the government-operated utilities have not been efficient and are not taking advantage of the power now made available by renewables in the country.
As reported in Diario Libre, ADIE warns there is an overproduction of power that the government power distributors are not using to supply the demand that increased 4% from January to June. Because of this deficiency, power outages are back, despite the surplus of power supply.
As reported in Diario Libre, ADIE states in a recent report: “Comprehensive planning of the country’s energy system is a crucial task to achieve sustainable development. The uncertainty of growing without a plan or, what is worse, not growing, creates an imbalance that ultimately leads to inadequate price signals, dependence on only one primary source of energy and, therefore, shortages in some cases.”
