The Ministry of Culture announced on Tuesday, 17 October 2023, the winning works of the XXX National Biennial of Visual Arts (BNAV). Culture Minister Milagros German announced the winners during a press conference at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) auditorium. The works are on exhibit at the MAM in Plaza de la Cultura.
The Grand Jury of the Biennial, made up of the Award and Selection juries, awarded the Grand Prize to the drawing “Portrait of Pandemics (Políptico – 15)” by Julio Valdez. Valdez receives a cash prize of RD$1 million.
Prizes were also awarded for the paintings “Urban Garden II” by Susan Mézquita and “El Rancho de Tula” by Yuly Monción. Other winners are the installations “Icons of a Tear and a Heart” by Yolanda Naranjo, “Intertwined Stories” by América Olivo and “The Island” by Luis Alberto Checo Muñoz.
