The tiny river called Partido is located in the province of Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo) in the Cibao Valley. The area is the newest protected area by Law 21-23. Known as Monumento Natural Rio Partido, the area is now protected by Law for Environmental Sectorial Protected Areas 202-04.
The enchantment of this area is created by the rustling of the waters of springs and smaller creeks. Small paths allow visitors to enjoy and preserve nature.
The Natural Monument law was the work of provincial senator Bautista Rojas Gomez, who began working on this project back in 2021.
The fact that the area surrounding the Rio Partido watershed creates micro-climates was a great starting point, and the senator stressed that the area needed to be regulated because it was subject to too many visitors.
The river begins in the Northern Mountains (Cordillera Septentrional) and runs over an area of some three square kilometers in the section known as Mango Fresco, in the municipal district of Jamao Afuera.
According to the Ecotourism Guidebook, the river runs through the La Salcedoa Scientific Reserve, some 41 sq. km of protected area, where there are plants only known to grow in this area. The area is also a sanctuary for butterflies.
Tours are available from the tiny village of Las Tres Cruces, and the tour guides stress the need to protect the area.
