The Senate passed the Administration of Seized, Seized and Abandoned Assets in Criminal Proceedings and Asset Forfeiture Trials (Administración de Bienes Secuestrados, Incautados y Abandonados en los Procesos Penales y en los Juicios de Extinción de Dominio).
The bill also creates the National Institute for Custody and Administration of Seized, Confiscated and Forfeited Assets (Instituto Nacional de Custodia y Administración de Bienes Incautados, Decomisados y en Extinción de Dominio — Incabide). This new government agency is entrusted with the administration of assets seized in criminal cases and extinction of domain rulings.
Among those drafting the bills is Fuerza del Pueblo senator for San Juan de la Maguana, Felix Bautista, deemed by Transparency International one of the most corrupt former government officials in the world.
The bill now moves to the Presidency for enactment.
