
The National Council of the Magistracy, the government body in charge of choosing higher court judges, is giving another week for people to submit candidates for five justice positions in the Constitutional Court. The vacancies need to be filled by December, when the retiring justices’ terms expire, including that of the president of the Constitutional Court.
The extension is until Wednesday, 1 November 2023 at 4 pm.
The reception of applications began on 11 October 2023. However, as of Wednesday 25 October, only 59 candidates had been received for the five positions.
On 27 December, the mandate of five judges of the Constitutional Court expires.
The justices that need to be replaced are:
The president, Milton Ray Guevara.
The first substitute president, Rafael Díaz Filpo.
The second substitute, Lino Vásquez Sámuel.
Judges Víctor Joaquín Castellanos Pizano and Justo Pedro Castellanos Khoury.
