DR wins gold in the 4 x 400 mixed Pan Am relay

The Dominican Republic won the gold medal in the 4 x 400 m mixed relay in the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games on Monday, 30 October 2023.

World champion in the 400 m, Marileidy Paulino closed the relay. She competed with Ezequiel Suarez, Anabel Medina (silver medallist on the 4 x 400 mixed relay in Tokyo 2020) and Robert King anbd completed the race in 3:16.05. She grabbed a comfortable lead over the teams from Brazil (3:18.55) and the United States (3:19.41).

In the Pan Am Games, Paulino is scheduled to run the 200 m race in the preliminary on Wednesday, 1 November. The final of the event is set for 2 November. Paulino did not participate in the 400 m in Santiago 2023. Her teammate, Anabel Medina was disqualified for her start in the 400m. Medina said she ran her relay stretch with all strength given by the grudge for the disqualification in the previous race.

In the 4 x 400 mixed relay, Ezequiel Suárez was the starter, entering in third, followed by Anabel Medina who also entered third. Then Robert King delivered the baton to Paulino with the team in second place. Paulino would close with a very comfortable lead.
