The Dominican Republic is hosting its Sixth International Health and Wellness Tourism Congress from 1 to 3 November 2023 at the JW Marriott in Santo Domingo. The meeting comes when the Dominican Republic is consolidating as a leading destination for medical tourism in the Caribbean.
The DR is first in medical tourism in the Caribbean, second in Latin America and 19th in the world. 3% of tourists who come to the country do so for health and well-being reasons.
Alejandro Cambiaso, president of the Asociación Dominicana de Turismo de Salud and conference organizer, explained that In 2022 alone, the country had received more than 250,000 health tourism-seeking travelers, doubling the figures reached in 2018.
