Summit seeks to position the DR as world class logistics hub

The National Shipping Association and the Dominican Customs Agency (DGA) announce the Dominican Republic Logistics Summit 2024 for 17-18 April 2024 at the Hotel Embajador. The summit is a conference intended to accelerate the country’s rise as a world-class strategic logistics hub.

Companies and government are betting on a combination of key factors — improving logistics infrastructure, solid growth in manufacturing and a strategic location that connects the region’s trade flows with the entire world to continue to position the country.

Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, director of the Customs Agency, highlighted that the government has identified the commercial and logistics sectors as strategic axes to promote the transition from a developing economy to an advanced economy.

“The Dominican Republic has greater accessibility and record transit times when compared to other countries in the region, both by air and sea. In addition, we have modern, efficient and agile ports,” highlighted Sanz Lovatón. The Dominican Republic Logistics Summit 2024 is a strategic platform that seeks to actively promote the country as a first-class logistics hub. Beyond the conferences and expert panels, this event presents substantial economic opportunities,” he stresses.

The private sector will play a crucial role in consolidating the Dominican Republic as a logistics hub. Sanz Lovatón said that “it is the private sector, with its investments, work and knowledge, that can turn the Dominican Republic into the great logistics center of the Americas.” The vision is clear: position the country as a fast and effective market that has modern and efficient ports, airports and logistics services,” he noted.

Jaak Rannik, president of the Shipping Association of the Dominican Republic (ANRD), emphasizes the country’s logistical efficiency and its cutting-edge infrastructure as fundamental pillars for its international positioning. “Our strategic location connects trade flows from the region to the entire world, so this summit represents a great opportunity for the generation of multiple businesses,” says Rannik.

The summit is attracting decision-makers and representatives of international companies and key players in the Dominican logistics sector. This includes shipping and logistics agents, ports, shipping lines, land transportation companies, warehouses, manufacturers, importers, exporters and financial entities.

The Dominican Republic Logistics Summit 2024 will offer economic opportunities in various areas, from investment in logistics infrastructure to the expansion of commercial operations and job creation. In addition, this event will represent a showcase to show the capabilities and quality of the logistics infrastructures already existing in the country.

The Dominican Republic has improved and expanded its ports and airports, which has contributed to greater efficiency in cargo movement. These investments are essential to attract investors and international logistics operators.

The country has experienced solid growth in the manufacturing industry. EPZs have attracted world-renowned companies seeking to take advantage of tax benefits and skilled labor. This growth in manufacturing is directly related to the demand for efficient and reliable logistics services.

The Dominican Republic has established a reliable legal framework that promotes foreign investment and protects investor rights. Favorable trade regulations and laws make the country attractive to companies seeking to establish logistics operations in the region. The strategic location of the Dominican Republic is a competitive advantage. The DR is at a connection point between America and Europe.

The event has the backing of main executives of the business organizations and institutions that promote this important productive segment: Dominican Association of Customs Agents (ADAA), the Dominican Association of Air and Maritime Freight Agents (Adacam), Dominican Association of Logistics Centers and Operators (Asologic), American Chamber of Commerce (Amchamdr), the Logistics Cluster of the Dominican Republic, the Logistics Council and the National Trade Facilitation Committee, among others.
