Miguel Fluxá, the founder and top official of the Iberostar Spanish resort chain, was in Pedernales to visit the construction site of the resort under construction in Cabo Rojo.
Fluxa toured the area where the chain will operate the 580 resort. Hyatt will also operate Secrets and Dreams-branded hotel in the area where 1,591 hotel rooms are expected to be open by the next winter season.
Fluxa was accompanied by the CEO of Iberostar Hotel & Resort, Phil McAveety; the chain’s director of group resources, Fernando García; its director of American operations, Rodrigo Silveira; and the director O & I Dominicana, Alberto Martínez.
Their hosts were the executive director of the DGAPP, Sigmund Freund, the deputy technical director, Eliardo Cairo and the technical director of the Execution Unit of the Pro-Pedernales Trust, José Rafael Miguel.
“This is an impressive project that can only be done by a president like the one you have now, who is a strong man, a brave man, an honest man and for me, I always say that in your country, there are two presidents who I have I have a lot of respect, it’s not that I don’t love others, but Balaguer was really a man who gave confidence to many investors. We invested here, one because of the trust that Balaguer gave us, and at this moment, we are living a time of openness, of vision for the future with Luis Abinader, so we continue to be happy to be here, we will continue doing things and this is the best place, the best thing we can do as a company is to be in Pedernales, which is a unique place,” said Fluxá in a few brief and emotional words.
The Presidency of the Dominican Republic has announced the Pedernales cruise ship port will open in December 2023, marking the start of the influx of mass tourism to the southwestern province.
