President Luis Abinader attended the start of the construction and development of the SIBA Energy combined cycle at the natural gas thermoelectric plant located in Boca Chica, Santo Domingo province.
With the implementing of the second phase for the thermoelectric plant, SIBA will increase its net generation capacity from 190 to 260 megawatts. The combined cycle system will produce energy using the heat recovered from the power turbines.
The total investment in developing this plant in its two phases is more than US$430 million.
Luis Mejía Brache, president of the board of SIBA Energy, said the generation complements investments in renewable energies and provides power and reserve energy in the event of failures and scheduled maintenance of other plants. The company executive said that the SIBA combined cycle phase will operate in the first half of 2025.
SIBA Energy will inject power and energy into the system through long-term contracts with the government distribution companies (EdeNorte, EdeSur and EdeEste).
The SIBA Energy Corporation consortium owns the plant comprising Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina (EGE Haina), SGN Energía and Monte Río Power Corporation.
