Rains help fill reservoirs

The National Institute for Hydraulic Resources (Indrhi) reports that the recent rains and the protocols installed by the National Water Watch have resulted in an increase in the water levels at the most important reservoirs in the Dominican Republic.

Luis Cuevas, an expert at Indrhi, noted that Sabaneta Dam is now at 99.1% of capacity; Rincon, one of the largest in the country, is at 98.85; Hatillo is at 84.2%, and Moncion is at 79.1%. Sabana Yegua, Juguey, Moncion, Hatillo, Tavera-Bao and Valdesia saw water level increases that ranged from 13.27 meters to nearly five meters.

Cuevas also noted that since November is generally a rainy month, these levels could well increase.

All this is good for agriculture and the local aqueducts that provide drinking water to the cities and towns. It is also good news for electricity generation.
